Olecranon Bursitis: Swollen Elbow Relief With Physiotherapy

What Is Olecranon Bursitis?
It’s the inflammation of the fluid-filled bursa at the back of the elbow, often from trauma or pressure.

Causes:

  • Repetitive elbow pressure (e.g. desk leaning)

  • Trauma or falls onto the elbow

  • Infections or medical conditions (e.g. gout)

Symptoms:

  • Swelling at the elbow tip

  • Redness or warmth (possible infection)

  • Mild to moderate pain

Physiotherapy Treatment: ✅ Activity modification and offloading
✅ Compression and icing techniques
✅ Range-of-motion exercises post-swelling
✅ Strengthening to prevent recurrence

Long-Term Recovery:
Through physiotherapy, we aim to reduce the risk of repeated flare-ups and restore full joint mobility. Ongoing management includes posture and pressure avoidance strategies.
