Dupuytren's Contracture: Managing Finger Curling with Physio

What Is Dupuytren’s Contracture?
A condition where thickened tissue forms under the skin of the palm, pulling fingers into a bent position over time.

Causes:

  • Genetic predisposition (more common in men over 50)

  • Often gradual and progressive

  • May affect both hands

Symptoms:

  • Nodules or cords under the palm

  • Finger(s) that gradually bend and can’t straighten

  • May not be painful initially

Physiotherapy Treatment: ✅ Stretching and finger mobility exercises
✅ Strengthening of hand muscles
✅ Splinting for mild cases
✅ Education and joint protection advice

Long-Term Recovery:
While physio can't reverse tissue thickening, it helps maintain mobility and hand function. Early intervention can slow progression and improve quality of life.
