Shin Splints: Physio Treatment for Front of Shin Pain

What Are Shin Splints?
Medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome, shin splints involve inflammation of muscles, tendons, and bone tissue around the tibia (shinbone), usually due to overuse.

Causes:

  • Sudden increase in training volume or intensity

  • Poor footwear or hard surfaces

  • Muscle imbalances

  • Flat feet or poor running technique

Symptoms:

  • Dull ache along the inner shin

  • Pain during or after exercise

  • Tenderness to touch

  • Mild swelling in the lower leg

Physiotherapy Treatment:
✅ Load management and training modifications
✅ Soft tissue release and dry needling
✅ Footwear and orthotic advice
✅ Strengthening and flexibility programs

Long-Term Recovery:
Physio helps you build tissue resilience, correct imbalances, and gradually return to sport — stronger and injury-free.
